Andrew Smith has been playing music since he was four years old. First starting on Piano, he eventually took up the drum set and studied from various well known performers in Calgary, such as Tyler Hornby and John Dewaal. During high school, he was awarded best rhythm section player in the Alberta Band Festival. Also, during this time he was selected to play in the high school honor band that was selected to play for the Calgary Jazz Festival in 2009.
Just near the end of school and afterwards, Andrew was able to learn from various rudimental drummers that were alumini of the Allegiance Elite Drum Line. He played and competed with the alumini Allegiance Elite Drum Line. In the Canadian Association of Rudimental Drummers competition, in Hamilton, Ontario, the group was able to win second place.

From this experience playing in a drum line, Andrew was able to take the rudimental, stick control and speed skills that he learned and than apply it to the drum set.
Next, Andrew was able to attend the Mount Royal University Jazz Performance Program and learn advanced concepts in jazz, funk and latin drum set performance. During his time studying music in post-secondary, he was also able to gain experience playing and recording in various bands and projects as a freelance musician.
Currently, Andrew continues to be an active musician, where he works as a drum set instructor for Time Music Studios, Music Makers, and also teaches his own private lessons. He is currently playing in his band, Mavis Beakin, and they are working on their first EP, that of which will be released this year. The group was featured on Vancouver's Fox Radio and has played in various venues around Vancouver and Calgary. Mavis Beakin was also given third place in X92.9's battle of the bands, which took place in July of 2013.
